In this Madden 13 Tip, Duke breaks down how to get intense outside pressure with only three rushers!

Play: Nickel Wide 9- Sugar 2 Disguise

Playbooks: ANY w/ Nickel Wide 9 (EX: CIN, DET, MIA, etc)

  1. Spread out the LB’ers
  2. Call BNR
  3. Crash the DL out
  4. Spy both right side DL
  5. Move the blitzing NB a yard to the left of the RDE and as far up on the LOS as possible

Ideally, you want your fastest back up DB at the blitzing NB spot.

Final Thoughts:

This is the first legit three man outside heat of the year. This defense is very good and if someone wants to slide protect left, just leave your defensive lineman on the right blitzing. The coverage on this play is also very tricky. The Wide 9 has a ton of unique looks and this is just one of them. This formation will be heavily feature in the Defensive Game Planning 103 guide so be on the look out for it in the next week tops!

    • I have some long term customers who pay a bit extra to get it 48 hours early. It’s like 90 percent done at point, so its not the full thing but its more than enough. But I have to stick with long term customers so I can trust them not to leak any info about what the book covers.

      • ok then, can you look at my account then? i have all your ebooks since the beggining of madden 12, would that be good enough or do i need longer?

  • great stuff as always Duke

was wondering if you could let us know which playbook this new D guide will be covering? thanks

    • CINCY. It has all the 43 formations, 46 (which I have a flipped scheme), Nickel, Nickel 335, Nickel Wide 9, and Dime. There’s a lot of new defenses out of this guide and some new twists to some of the most popular defenses this year, but the biggest benefit is the sections where I break down how to defend all the popular offensive formations and plays. From anyone who has bought DGP 101 or 102, they can tell you that section alone is worth the money.

      • Sounds awesome, I was thinking it was going to be MIA/STL because that seems to be the books I’ve seen you use lately in your gameplay vids.. but aside from the 46 Bear Under, CIN has all the other formations plus everyone’s favorite 335 in it. Looking forward to it.. and to touch on what Kyle said, I’d love to get this early if possible. I’ve been a member since M11 since the infamous Houston O book dropped.. if you could hook it up, it would be great. If not, I can wait out the few days.. never hurts to ask. Thanks again for all the work you put in.

  • will be getting this one ASAP I have been running this book for the last 2 months every since I stopped running bear under and went back to 4-3 and 335. Like it because it also has all the sugar plays and 335 plays wish it had the dollar though.

  • I was wondering if the heat will still come or will it get picked up if you dont move the nb thats blitzing down. The reason i ask is my sim league cant handle blitzes lol and they dont allow manually moving players unless you control them until after the snap. I really dont wont to control the blitzing person because i have decent stick for covering and that would take me out of the play. I will definetly us this in ranked and tournaments. thanks

  • duke i seen someone already stole this blitz on youtube lol and i mean the exact same steps. i could see if it was a lil different but i mean word for word also the same thing happened to the bear under and edge sting from earlier this year.

    • It doesn’t surprise me. The same thing happened last year with my 52. The thing is I have been working on the Wide 9 for months. I had Beastmodemac and Cannon (the M3 crew was first to run this formation period) run it on me back in October and out of respect for them I would not post their setups, but not everyone has that respect for other players. So someone may try to take a blitz from me and claim, even post it before I can finish the eBook and say they had it first lol, but the reality it is most people know the real. Now I was able to come up with my own setups, so while someone may be able to jock a blitz off me from here or even playing me on saloon or something, they will never have the full scheme unless they buy the eBook. I got heat from both sides, not just the left, double B gap, and a max coverage nobody has seen this year.

With the Edge Sting, I really don’t care because even though I posted the A gap and the Turbo Rush setups months ago, everyone has been running this play for years so its bound to be something a lot of people find. The thing is, I NEVER saw anyone set it up with the base align and hook zones like I showed 2 weeks ago and I have yet another crazy twist to it coming in the eBook that nobody knows about.

Anyway, I have been finishing up the book tonight and wanted to comment on this to let everyone know it will be done sometime tomorrow.

  • and thats exactly why i stay off gs and virgin. someone can record your blitz or money play for a cool 10 and post it on youtube lmao. the best part is its the same kids who stole your 52 last year duke. but thats madden, somethings hot and next thing you know its everywehre

      • Just to update everyone, I decided to add one more video dealing with the differences of defending under center tight vs gun tight. We are coming in at just over 60 base setups, not even including the adjustments for all the formations we show. Anyway, the guide will definitely be out in the next 24 hours.

    • Everything in CIN pb other than quarters. 43 Stack, 43 Under, 43 Over, 43 Over Plus, 46 Normal, Nickel Normal, Nickel 335, Nickel Wide 9, Dime Normal

  • Maybe a coincidence but I just started using the Cincy playbook about a week ago for all the formations it had in it and now Duke releases a guide for it…this should really tighten my defense up and make the Cincy book the best kept secret…..Can’t wait to get my hands on this
